WHAT IS EDC?
Engineering for Developing Communities (EDC) is one of several Active Learning Opportunities and Exploration Beyond the Classroom experiences available to students in the College of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
The Mortenson Center in Engineering for Developing Communities (MC-EDC) presents a unique opportunity for educating a new generation of engineers who contribute to the relief of the problems faced by developing communities worldwide. The Center emphasizes an integrated and participatory nature of humanitarian development. As such, it contributes to meeting the UN Millennium Development Goals. EDC encompasses education, research & development, and outreach/service related to sustainable community development. All EDC students work on real projects.
MC-EDC offers an undergraduate track in the Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering (CEAE) Department. Graduate tracks are also available in the MS/PhD program in Environmental Engineering and the MS/PhD program in Civil Systems. For more information, check the EDC Education web page.
EDC at CU Boulder serves as a blueprint for the education of engineers of the 21st century who are called to play a critical role in contributing to peace and security in an increasingly challenged world.
