Undergraduate Geotechnical Laboratory
The instructional geotechnical laboratory is used to conduct
laboratory sessions that are part of the coursework for undergraduate
classes. The laboratory consists of five triaxial cell setups that can
also be used for conventional triaxial tests (CU, CD, UU) as well as
consolidation tests with backpressure and pore water pressure
measurement. A direct shear apparatus, vane shear apparatus, and
constant head and falling head permeability setups are also available.
Equipment is also available for standard soil classification tests
including small and large-scale mechanical sieve shakers. Teaching
assistants are encouraged to review this layout of
the benches and equipment. The instructional laboratory also includes
the instructional geotechnical centrifuge, details of which can be
found under the centrifuge lab tab to the right.
