The graduate program in Construction Engineering and Management leads to the degrees of Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy in Civil Engineering. Students studying toward the M.S. degree can pursue a thesis or a course work option of 30 semester hours. The Ph.D. degree requires additional course work beyond M.S. degree as well as a dissertation.

The goal of the program is to provide students the educational environment to expand their abilities as construction professionals in contractor, construction management, engineering, design-build, and owner organizations. We believe the challenges of the new era in construction will be met by a construction professional possessing a skill set firmly based in engineering, architecture, and construction. These skills also require liberal exposure to business, ethics, and law. The program affords the student educational opportunities in building construction and heavy/industrial construction. Preparing professionals for the analytical, multicultural, and creative demands of the future requires a strongly committed partnership between academia and industry. The continuing dialogue between the University and the active local construction industry further enhances educational opportunities.

Undergraduate Course Prerequisites for Graduate Admission

Before taking graduate courses the following minimum undergraduate course requirements must be satisfied:

Mathematic and calculus courses through differential equations and linear algebra. Statics, mechanics of materials, fluid mechanics, geotechnical engineering, structural analysis.


Facilities

Students interested in computer-based research will find an excellent workstation and PC-based environment in the department. The Construction Computing Laboratory includes high performance PCs, online data services, digital cameras, scanners and other resources for students. The Bechtel computer laboratory, which contains state-of-the-art computer hardware and software, is also readily available to the students.
